Artist Feature — Kat Jackson

What led you to BTS?

Visuals. The music videos, styling, color palettes, photoshoots, comeback concepts- anything visually related that they put out always had me floored. It all made sense later when I found out that Bang PD majored in Aesthetics. My niece Tanya (@bybrittany) showed me their American Hustle Life episodes and I think that's really when I started to pay attention. I fully identified as ARMY after watching them live and in person during their Jimmy Kimmel appearance. That was when I learned the fan chant  🤪.

Love Yourself era is really where I fell in love. During that time I was starting a new chapter in my life and found that album to be the soundtrack that I needed to get through it. I’m big on things aligning when they are supposed to and finding BTS at this time really was such a pillar for me to go through changes and difficult moments in my life.

Who or what sparked your interest in art/tarot?

My first degree is in Visual Communications so I’ve always loved art ever since I was young. Growing up, it was something that I was never supported in. Now that I’m older, paying attention to my inner child (Hi V :)), I've started to fully immerse myself as well as my daughter into art, and it has been so therapeutic and healing.

I live in Los Angeles and a lot of events that I would attend or work would bring in tarot readers as part of their launch. I’ve had short readings at these events, and honestly just made friends in the city who also read cards. I’m super passionate about constantly working on yourself and healing inner trauma-type of person.  During the pandemic I enrolled into a Self Discovery class with Krizell (@krizellanne) and at the same time received a reading and attended workshops from Mara (@magicshoptarot). All the information I received, including my tarot reading resonated so much with my mindset and things going on in my life. As I continue this journey I became more interested in using tarot as one of my tools to help check in and ground myself with.

What is your favorite card and why?

The Tower. I am so lucky that I have met my Tarot partner Kat Fukui and super happy to have received a reading from her that I think really changed the trajectory of my vision/goals. I was visiting her area and we magically found a way to meet up even when our schedules seemed like it was against us.  I was definitely leaving the city on a sad girl vibe but Kat and her reading changed everything for me. It almost felt like it all was meant to happen for us to meet right there at that Blue Bottle and for my eyes to open up to something so much bigger inside of me.

One of the cards that came up was the Tower Card. I remember her words were, “your foundation is crumbling” talking about letting go of old self/old programs and creating that safe space for me to grow. She said things like it may look fucking scary but its happening and it’s a ride that I just need to take. Honestly, I knew it and I definitely saw all the undoing happening in all parts of my life. I think I like this card because to some it’s almost like a permission slip or a reminder that it’s ok to let go of old thoughts/things/people/ideas and know that you have all the power to create and cultivate the space/mindset/environment that you need for you to grow into the life you dream of. It helps me to get through all situations with an open mind coming from love and thinking what can I learn from this? Omg I’ve said so much lol ahhh whatever BANGTAN FOREVER!!!!
